Virginia is the Roach Motel

Millions of dollars of taxpayer money have been spent on the "Virginia is for Lovers" motto. But former residents of the state associate Virginia more with the slogan for the Roach Motel; you can check in but you can't check out. More specifically, Virginia is happy to have you as a new state resident but is unwilling to let go of your wallet if you try to relocate to another state.

Are they coming after you like they did me (as a former VA resident?) I filed a full-year return the first year I moved to FL instead of partial and then they came back later and dinged me for not making partial payments throughout the year! After I had already paid! Never again! They are awfully greedy. When I moved out of VA the second time, you can be sure I calculated out the partial year stuff to the penny.
